On May 27, 2025, Associate Professor Martin Kuchař from the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague was appointed chair of the newly established Advisory Committee on the Assessment of Psychoactive Substances.
The appointment was made by Prime Minister Petr Fiala following the adoption of new legislation focused on the regulation of so-called psychomodulatory substances. The committee will play a key role in providing expert assessments and proposing regulatory measures for substances with low societal risk—starting with kratom and potentially including other similar compounds in the future.
